Third Wedding Planning Newsletter
October 22, 2002

Time is ticking! We just have 4 more months to go, and the pressure is on!

Last month we sent out Save-The-Date information to help all of our guests plan their stay with us for the big day. I hope that the packages reached everyone safely. If for some reason you did not receive a package please e-mail me with your full name and correct mailing information. We did get some packets sent back to us because of undeliverable addresses, and we don't want the same thing to happen with the wedding invitations!

You can reach new and updated information at any time on the web at:

There was a set back with the rooms that we are supposed to rent for our wedding. Instead of having one large room for the ceremony/reception and two smaller rooms for setting up food and as private space for the bridal party, one of the smaller rooms is being converted into offices (unfortunately it's the one that was convenient for food). This makes things slightly more difficult than originally planned for, and John and I ask for your patience. Though we don't think (yet) that the wedding venue will have to be changed, it is a distinct possibility. I'm doing everything I can to avoid that. Please keep your fingers crossed.

By the end of this month I hope to have a photographer booked. We're also in the process of finding someone who will be able to officiate the wedding vows. Since this is the most important role of the wedding it's taking a lot of time and caution to make sure that we select the right person. Though we're hoping to have a nice reception to thank you all for coming, the wedding ceremony is at the heart of why this day will be so special to us. Choosing someone means more than just who can read the words… it's finding someone who can speak from the heart.

Notes from John:
"Being your tourism contact for the Monterey area, I'm the one to talk to regarding things to see in or around town. Its actually not a bad place (once you get over the ocean, sun and plentiful seafood) and we think an undeniably picturesque setting in which to begin our lives together. If anybody wants to know anything specific about the area, i.e. wineries, car rentals, etc., I'm your man. However, due to a minor difficulty, the johncblackford@netscape.net email account may not always be reliable. I would truly appreciate it if, should your letter not receive a response, you could contact me at this alternate email address: mcjohnny911@aol.com. Thank you for your understanding.
I've noticed a few of you are talking about coming down a day or two early during the week of the wedding. For all of you early birds, I'll be organizing a walking tour of downtown Monterey (tentatively scheduled to start mid-morning Friday, February 21) to enjoy a few of the local landmarks that we included brochures for in the Save-The-Date packet. As the name implies, there will be a certain amount of walking involved though the city itself is very accessible. And to top it all off, I'll be the one holding the map. Packing an extra day's clothing and food might be smart.
In case any of you are interested, Nievita and I are in the process of buying each other rings for the big occasion in February. We would both love to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and encouragement toward us during this last year. Each kind word has made our journey forward that much smoother and both of us deeply appreciate it."

Please let John know if you're planning on being in the area on the Friday before the wedding, and whether you'd be interested in visiting some of the sites of Monterey. I have to say, with regret, that I won't be able to join the tour group… I'll most likely be arranging the flowers!

Speaking of, here are my major projects for this month:

- Ordering all of our flowers and planning arrangements.
- Doing the first fittings and alterations for my wedding dress, and completing the veil.
- Finalizing a menu and deciding how food will be presented. We will start picking up non-perishable items sometime next month.
- Completing music for the ceremony and reception (with MUCH help from my brother Dan. Thank you!)
- Beginning the construction of the invitations, programs and other stationary.
- Begin putting together the guestbook/photo album with the photos we will borrow from friends and family. (If you have any photos, especially of John as a child, please let me know soon!)

Until next time (only a month away) please stay safe, happy and healthy.

All our love,
John & Nievita
